thrillracerESQ discusses the meanings of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle lyrics: I think the narrator is babysitting (perhaps his nephew) and saying that he is the best protector of the baby from all sorts of potential threats, both from within and outside the house, as well as the best caretaker to prevent any longing that cannot be communicated with words. The narrator seems to think there are a lot of supernatural threats preying on the baby and they both need to pray. He mentions that he “once had a child” who went unnamed, suggesting that either he died after birth (the narrator “looked into his wonderous eyes”) or was adopted out. (Either way the child was out of the “family line” since Morrissey later sang about being “The End of the Family Line.”) Telling his son “never never never again” meant that he was never going to have unprotected sexual intercourse again that could result in another pregnancy, but he was drawn to his lover “like a moth to a flame” and couldn’t help hi
